The LORD

“And, said GOD/ELOHIM, ‘WE will make man/adam in OUR image/resemblance, like/as OUR likeness/resemblance/model/shape/fashion/similitude/manner…” (Gen 1:26).

In Hebrew, like many languages, the verb will match the noun. So, if we have a singular noun, then the verb is singular. But, in this first statement by the LORD about making man, the word “said” is singular while the noun “GOD/ELOHIM” is plural. This makes the plural noun “GOD/ELOHIM” singular. Then the noun “We” and its verb “make” are both plural. But, they are both referring back to the noun “GOD/ELOHIM.” This means the LORD GOD is calling HIMSELF a singular and a plural noun at the same time. The one LORD states “WE” and “OUR” as HE talks about HIMSELF in the plural. The LORD does this while talking about our image that HE has made in HIS likeness. So, if we want to understand more about the LORD and how HE can be one singular GOD that is also plural, we need to look at how the LORD made ourselves.

This is where it gets interesting. The original language of the Bible (the Hebrew, Greek, and a little Aramaic) is perfect in every way. But, you can not translate any language into another language without losing some meaning from the original language. So, we have to follow the Hebrew text when trying to find out how the LORD said HE made us.

“And, LORD/I-AM/YEHOVAH GOD/ELOHIM formed/fashioned/molded-into-a-form-like-a-potter [Aleph-Tav] the man/adam (from) dry-dirt/dust/earth/aphar/(H6083) from/of the ground/red-soil/land/earth/adamah/(H127) and breathed/blew/puffed/naphach/(H5301) in his nose/nostrils (the) Breath/neshamah/(H5397) (of) alive/Living/spiritual-life/plural-of-chay/(H2416) and became the man/adam to/for/onto physical-life/living-being/a-soul/breathing-creature/nephesh/(H5315)” (Gen 2:7).

Yes, I know that is a little hard to read. As always, any words italicized in parentheses are not part of the original language of the Bible and are added for clarification. So, the breathing of GOD’s Breath of spiritual Life into us makes the dirt we are made of physical life. The living dirt is our flesh. We can confirm this with another set of verses.
In Gen 6:17 and in Gen 7:15, we find the LORD is going to destroy all “…flesh/basar/(H1320) which/that (is) in it (the) wind/spirit/ruach/(H7307) (of) alive/Living/spiritual-life/plural-of-chay/(H2416)…” Here, we have a statement that is similar to Gen 2:7; but instead, “dirt” is replaced with the word for “flesh,” and GOD’s “Breath” of Life is replaced with the word “spirit.” To confirm we are looking at this correctly, we have Gen 7:22 state, “…all that/which (had) breath/neshamah/(H5397) – spirit/ruach/(H7307) (of) alive/Living/life/plural-of-chay/(H2416)…” This verse links the “breath” of the Hebrew word “neshamah” with the “spirit/ruach.” So, GOD’s Breath of Life is the organism’s spirit that make and keeps it (the dirt/flesh) alive.

We find the LORD is called ELOHIM in Gen 1:1 and there is a different name for the LORD in Gen 1:2 of “SPIRIT/WIND/RUACH GOD/ELOHIM” or SPIRIT (of) GOD. Most English translations will say SPIRIT/WIND of GOD/ELOHIM, but the “of” is an added English word. From this we can understand that the Breath of Life of the LORD is the same or like the SPIRIT/WIND of GOD/ELOHIM. It is the Breath of Life of the LORD that is our spirit (Job 33:4). So, a person was made like (or in the resemblance of) the LORD, in that both the LORD and the person have a spirit/wind/ruach.

What about the flesh of a person? How is it made in the image of GOD? Does GOD have a body? In Gen 3:8 “LORD/I-AM/YEHOVAH GOD/ELOHIM” is walking in the garden and can be heard walking. From Isa 31:3 and John 4:24, we understand GOD is spirit. In Luke 24:39, we find a “spirit does not have flesh and bones” and would not be able to be touched or eat like a human, like YESHUA/JESUS was able to be touched and did eat in Luke 24:39, 40, 43. But, we find in Gen 18:1, 2, 3 4, 8, the LORD/I-AM/YEHOVAH is one of the three “men” WHO can be seen, touched, and eats dairy & meat. It seems the LORD had a body that was not just a spirit. This also means there is a part of GOD that is spirit without a body for Isa 31:3 and John 4:24 to be true. And, there is a part of GOD that has a body. But, (like Dt 6:4; Isa 45:21; Mrk 12:29; Gal 3:20; and 1 Tim 2:5 state) there is only one GOD and there was and is no other. So, our body was made like (or in the resemblance of) the LORD. And, like the LORD, a human has a spirit that is separate from his body and still is one person and not 2 people. Or, we can say, just because the one LORD has a BODY separate from HIS SPIRIT, this does not make HIM 2 GODs/Gods.

Now, when the LORD is called spirit, the Word is not speaking of the SPIRIT of GOD of WHOM we expect to be spirit from the name “SPIRIT/WIND/RUACH GOD/ELOHIM.” But, “GOD/ELOHIM” is being called spirit. The “GOD/ELOHIM,” WHO is spirit, would be a different part of GOD that does not have a BODY and does not have the name “SPIRIT/WIND/RUACH GOD/ELOHIM.” And, in Gen 6:5 we find man has a heart/mind/will/leb/(H3820) which is-like/resembles the heart/mind/will/leb/(H3820) of the “LORD/I-AM/YEHOVAH” that we find in Gen 6:6. So, now we have the one LORD having a MIND, BODY, and a SPIRIT just as HE made one human to have a mind, body, and spirit. The one human is not 3 people because the person has a mind, body, and spirit. And, the one LORD/GOD is not 3 GODs/Gods because HE has a MIND, BODY, and SPIRIT. Some may say the heart is not related to the mind. What we are finding out with today’s science is the heart actually can think and has neurons of its own to think on its own; and, along with the brain/mind, the heart even produces hormones to affect our emotions [ref].

YESHUA/JESUS states HE is “I-AM/YEHOVAH/LORD,” and the Jewish authorities at the time wanted to stone YESHUA because HE was calling HIMSELF the one GOD (Jhn 8:58, 59; 10:30, 31, 32, 33; Isa 52:6). YESHUA forgives a person of their sins (Mt 9:2; Lk 5:20). A person can only forgive the sin or sins which another has done to him, but he can not forgive a person of all his sins. GOD is the only one all our sin are against, and HE is the only one WHO can forgive all our sins. This means YESHUA was saying HE is GOD and has the authority of GOD, which is in agreement with the reasoning thoughts of the scribes and Pharisees (Mt 9:3; Lk 5:21), and why they wanted to kill YESHUA. And, YESHUA showed them HE is GOD by listening to their thoughts and healing the paralytic (Mt 9:4, 5, 6, 7; Lk 5:22, 24, 25). Many other verses state YESHUA is LORD/GOD (Psm 110:1; Isa 7:14; 9:6; Micah 5:2; Jhn 1:1, 14; 10:30; 14:7, 8, 9, 10, 11; 20:28; Heb 1:3; Col 1:15; and many more). YESHUA was born to a virgin human mother while HIS father is the LORD the FATHER (Luk 1:27, 31, 34, 35; Jhn 3:13). YEHSUA is called the LORD the SON and was born with a human body (Psm 2:7; Heb 1:5; Mt 3:17; 17:5; Jhn 1:1, 14).

The LORD/I-AM/YEHOVAH is also a father and is called the LORD/GOD the FATHER, as can be found in Dt 32:6; Pro 3:12; Isa 63:16; 64:8; Jer 31:9; Mal 1:6; 2:10; Jhn 14:6; 1 Jhn 3:1; Eph 4:6; 2 Cor 1:3; and so on. The verses in Jhn 5:19, 30; 6:38, 39, 40 show the LORD the FATHER has authority over the LORD the SON. The verses in Jhn 14:26; 15:26, 27; 16:12, 13; Luke 24:49; Acts 2:33 show the LORD the SON has authority over the LORD the SPIRIT. The LORD/GOD the FATHER has all authority and is the LORD the MIND. And, as humans were created like or in the resemblance of GOD, the human mind also has all authority over the human body and spirit (Rom 8:5, 6).

Now, YESHUA said HE existed before Abraham (Jhn 8:58). Do we see HIM at that time? We already went over that there is at that time the LORD the BODY. But, the LORD the BODY also had another name.

And, man can not see the LORD and live (Ex 33:20). Yet, in the Tanakh/Old-Testament/Word the Angel of the LORD is also called the LORD and men see HIM and do not die, just as men saw YESHUA and did not die (Gen 16:7, 9, 10, 11, 13; 22:11, 14, 15, 16). If the Angel of the LORD was just an angel, the angel would have stopped the person from worshiping HIM (Dan 10:10, 11; 8:17, 18; Rev 19:10; 22:9). But, the Angel of the LORD does not stop anyone from worshiping HIM (Jdg 13:9, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20). The Angel of the LORD is the LORD GOD and was seen by men just as YESHUA is the LORD GOD and was seen by men who did not die. This is why the Angel of the LORD in the midst of the burning bush is called GOD, because the Angel of the LORD is GOD (Ex 3:2, 3, 4). So, the Angel of the LORD is YESHUA.

Does this mean YESHUA is an angel? All the Bible/Scripture/Word speaks of YESHUA as the one LORD GOD; so, YESHUA can not be an angel. So, what is going on? The Hebrew word for angel is mal’ak (H4397) and literally means messenger. The Hebrew word for king is melek (H4428). The difference between the two words is the word for king has its vowels changed from ‘e’ to ‘a’ and an Aleph (‘) is added. Both of these changes are moving the word for king toward Aleph, as the Aleph is used as the vowel of ‘a’. Aleph is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet and represents the LORD (see Aleph). So, we could translate mal’ak as the messenger-of-the-LORD/king-from-the-LORD. This makes sense with angels and the Angel of the LORD. But, in Hebrew there is not an “of the” in the phrase “Angel of the LORD.” So, the phrase “Angel of the LORD” could be translated as LORD-Messenger-YEHOVAH/LORD-KING-YEHOVAH, which is very fitting for our LORD KING YESHUA.


So, the LORD the BODY is YESHUA, the LORD the SON.
Did YESHUA, the LORD the SON, leave HIS body to be born into a human body of flesh, or is HIS human body of flesh the beginning of HIS eternal body? Phil 2:7 indicates YESHUA “emptied HIMSELF” and, being fully GOD, was born fully man. YESHUA is fully LORD/GOD and fully man. YESHUA was and is fully LORD/GOD and fully man before HIS death, during HIS death, and after HIS resurrection (Jhn 1:1, 14; Col 2:9; Heb 4:15; 1 Jhn 4:2).

Each of the LORD the FATHER, the LORD the SON, and the LORD the SPIRIT are personal individuals (sometimes called persons). Here is an article showing how the SPIRIT is a personal individual [Article from GotQuestions.com]. The article does a good job of showing the HOLY SPIRIT is a personal individual, but does not do a very good job on the pronouns used for the SPIRIT, which will be covered later. Since we are made like the LORD, does or can our mind, body, and spirit operate separately from one another? We can think without the body being involved. Our body also does things without the brain, like the automatic reflex responses (your leg has an automatic response when the doctor hits the knee with a hammer). To look at the spirit of a person, we will need to look at this in a different direction. The article on Heaven & Hell goes into how, until a Believer receives a new body, the spirit of a Believer is in Heaven in the presence of the LORD, while the body is in the ground. So, in this situation, the spirit of a person is operating independently of the body. The person on ‘Aretz/Earth has a mind, body, and spirit that function in unison and independently at the same time.

At this point, the FATHER being understood to be like the mind/brain/heart and the SON being understood to be like the body is more tangible than the SPIRIT being like the spirit. The Hebrew word ruach (H7307), that means spirit, can also mean wind. The wind is like the spirit as we can not see the wind, but we can see the effects of the wind; and we can not see the SPIRIT but we see the effect of the SPIRIT. Another way to understand the SPIRIT is from what happens when the SPIRIT comes upon someone. From the Bible, we read that the SPIRIT comes upon a person in power (Jdg 14:6; 1 Sam 10:6; Mic 3:8; Luk 1:35; Act 1:8). This power is seen as different Gifts of the SPIRIT (see article). And, the LORD communicates through the SPIRIT to us (Jhn 14:26; 15:26; 16:13). So, we can look at our nervous system as like the SPIRIT. Our nervous system communicates with power (electric power) to the body (representing the body of YESHUA or the ‘Body of YESHUA,’ which is the ‘Church‘) the will of the mind/brain (representing the FATHER). Of course, at the same time the head represents YESHUA, WHO is the Head of the Body (the Church). “…CHRIST/MESSIAH/ANOINTED-ONE (is) head of the Church/Assembly/Congregation; HE HIMSELF SAVIOR/DELIVERER/PRESERVER of the Body/(Church)” (Eph 5:23). And, the FATHER, WHO is spirit, would really only be represented by the mind and not the fleshly brain. This image of our human head and mind helps us to come closer to understanding YESHUA’s words of, “I and the FATHER are one” (Jhn 10:30).

But, even though we are made like and in the resemblance of GOD, we are not GOD. All of these following attributes of GOD are true of the LORD the FATHER and true for the LORD the SON and true for the LORD the SPIRIT, WHO are all the one singular GOD. They are not true for any man or angel or created thing. Both male and female humans are created in the image of GOD (Gen 1:27). GOD is spirit and is not male or female except in the male human body of YESHUA. So, even though HE is called after a male pronoun, the masculine and feminine attributes of a human are only a resemblance of WHO GOD is. There is only one GOD and there was no other GOD/God or GODs/Gods before HIM and there is no other GOD/God or GODs/Gods now and there will be no other GOD/God or GODs/Gods after HIM (Dt 4:35; 1 Kgs 8:60; 1 Chr 17:20; Isa 43:10, 11; 44:6; 46:9; Jam 2:19; 1 Tim 2:5, 6). LORD/GOD was, is, and will be forever and was never created (Gen 21:33; Ex 3:14; Psm 90:1, 2; Isa 9:6; 41:4; Heb 7:3; 13:8; Rev 1:8). HE created everything including time, space, and matter and existed before them and even now is beyond and outside of them in HIS existence (Gen 1:1, Col 1:15, 16, 17). There is no place where GOD does not exist as HE is everywhere (Psm 139:7, 8, 9, 10). HE is and calls HIMSELF “I AM”/”YEHOVAH” (Ex 3:14). As HE is in the past, present, and future all at once, HE knows all that has happened and all that is happening and all that will happen; HIS mind is infinite with infinite perfect knowledge and infinite perfect understanding and infinite perfect wisdom; and all knowledge, understanding, and wisdom comes from the LORD (Isa 11:2; 1 Sam 2:3; Pro 2:6; Psm 147:5; Job 28:12, 20, 23, 24; 1 Jhn 3:20). HE sees and hears everything including the thoughts of mankind (Pro 15:3; Psm 139:2, 4; Heb 4:12, 13; Job 34:21, 22; Psm 139:23, 24). As GOD created everything, everything belongs to GOD, and HE has no need for anything, nor can HE be bribed (Dt 10:14, 17; Psm 89:11). GOD is infinitely powerful with infinite authority and influence over all and has no authority that is above or over HIM (Num 11:23; Gen 18:14; Job 42:2; Mt 19:26; 28:18; Eph 1:20, 21). “… GOD is light and darkness/dimness/spiritual-darkness is not in/on/by/with HIM, none (1 Jhn 1:5). God is good, righteous, just, and holy; there is none good, righteous, just, and holy like HIM; and all goodness, righteousness, justice, and holiness comes from HIM (Josh 24:19; 1 Sam 2:2; Rev 4:8; Isa 30:18; Psm 89:14). GOD is eternal/infinite/unending life (1 Jhn 5:20). GOD in HIS holiness is a consuming fire of wrath that will consume unholiness that is in HIS presence (Dt 4:24; 9:3; Heb 12:29; Lev 10:1, 2). GOD is infinitely compassionate/merciful, gracious, and patient/slow-to-anger/longsuffering (Num 14:18; Ex 34:6; Nah 1:3; Joel 2:13). GOD has not and will never change and is unchanging (Mal 3:6; Psm 102:27). “GOD is love” (1 Jhn 4:16; Gal 5:22). GOD has no fear and has perfect infinite courage, and courage comes from HIM (1 Jhn 4:18; Dt 31:6, 7, 8; 2 Tim 1:7; Isa 41:10, 11, 12, 13). From GOD comes “…love/benevolence, joy/gladness, peace/shalom, patience/forbearance/longsuffering, goodness/uprightness/kindness/gentleness, kindly-goodness/virtuousness, faith/belief/trust/confidence/faithfulness/assurance, humility/gentleness, self-restraint/self-control/temperance;…” (Gal 5:22, 23). GOD is infinitely faithful and true and can not lie and will fulfill every promise HE has or will make (Dt 7:9; Num 23:19; 1 Cor 1:9; Tit 1:2). GOD is our Savior and there is no savior besides HIM (1 Sam 43:11; Isa 43:3; Jud 1:25). GOD is not prejudice for or against anyone (Dt 10:17; 2 Chr 19:7). GOD does not become weary, tired, or sleepy (Isa 40:28). GOD is jealous (Ex 20:5; 34:14; Dt 4:24). This may sound like a bad thing, but GOD owns everything and is not jealous of what HE bestowed to anyone. HE is jealous for what belongs to HIM; it is only wrong to be jealous of what does not belong to you (Ex 20:17). We may come to know GOD, but we will always be limited to how fully we will ever comprehend GOD and fully know GOD (Psm 145:3; Isa 40:28; 1 Cor 13:12).

Now, the list above is not complete, and the list itself we can not even fully understand. Example: God has infinite power. What is infinite? The universe being endless is an example. If there is a wall/boundary at the edge of the universe, what is on the other side of the wall/boundary? The universe has no boundary and no end. It goes on forever. We can not truly image endless/forever, much less the size of the Earth we stand on. Can we understand the power? The dividing of one atom creates enough power for an atomic bomb. This is an explosion of physical power the size of a mountain. About 35 million carbon atoms would fit in the period at the end of this sentence. We can not image the physical power of a period full of carbon atoms; so, we definitely can not image the physical power of all of the atoms of the endless universe that the LORD GOD Almighty created and holds together with HIS power. This is not even including the spiritual power and other powers we have no comprehension of.

What about the soul? Here is an article explaining very well the word “soul”. The Hebrew word nephesh (H5315) is translated as physical-life/living-being/a-soul/breathing-creature. It is physical in nature and can die as we can see from Num 6:6. The LORD states “… to love the LORD your GOD in all your heart/mind/lebab/levav (H3824) and in all your physical-life/living-being/a-soul/breathing-creature/nephesh (H5315) and in all your strength/force/muchness/me’od (H3966)” (Dt 6:5). So, we can see the FATHER is represented first in this verse with the mind/heart/levav. The SON WHO is the BODY is represented by the physical-life/soul/nephesh. And, the SPIRIT is represented by the power of the force/strength/me’od. From Mt 22:37 and Mrk 12:30 and Luk 10:27, we find the same pattern as Dt 6:5, but heart and mind are separated. The Hebrew word levav includes the heart and the mind. But, two words have to be used to include both heart and mind when using Greek.

In Rev 1:4, “Grace/Favor and shalom/the-peace-of-the-LORD” are “from the 7 (fold) SPIRIT(s) before/in-the-presence-of/in-the-Eyes-of HIS throne/power/dominion.” Rev 5:6 states the “7 EYES, which is the 7 (fold) SPIRIT(s) (of) GOD, having been sent-forth into all the earth.” This is referring back to Zechariah 4:10, “…these 7 EYES of the-LORD/YEHOVAH, they (are) from going-about/roving-about in all the ‘Aretz/Earth.” These are the same “7 EYES” of Zechariah 3:8, 9 that states, “Shema/hear/obey now/I-pray/please/I-beseech Yehoshua/Joshua, the high priest, you and your brothers/friends/neighbors/companions who sit/dwell to-face/before you, for men (as) a miracle/sign/wonder to-them; for behold, from/of/out-of (you) (is) coming [Aleph-Tav] MY Servant Branch/Sprout. For behold, the Stone which I have put/set to-face/before Yehoshua/Joshua, upon (the) one Stone (are) 7 EYES; behold, from/out-of opening/carving (of) engraving/inscription, says the-LORD/YEHOVAH (of) armies/hosts, I will remove/take-away/withdraw/depart [Aleph-Tav] iniquity/guilt/fault/punishment-of-iniquity/sin (of/from) this land/’Aretz/Earth in one day.” YESHUA (JESUS) calls HIMSELF the Alpha-Omega (Rev 22:13), which in Hebrew would be the Aleph-Tav. YESHUA is the one called “MY Servant Branch/Sprout” that Aleph-Tav is representing, WHO comes as the High Priest from a Levite, Miriam/Mary (Luk 1:30, 31; Heb 3:1). Yehoshua (Joshua) means the “LORD is Savior.” YESHUA comes from the name Yehoshua and means “SAVIOR/MESSIAH/CHRIST” or literally “the saving part of salvation” (see YESHUA/JESUS). So, Yehoshua is representing YESHUA; and, the Stone is being linked to YESHUA through Yehoshua. The Stone (representing YESHUA) has the 7 EYES (representing the SPIRIT) upon it just as the SPIRIT was upon YESHUA during HIS ministry (Luk 4:1, 14). And, the names of the 7 of the SPIRIT are listed in Isa 11:2. So, just as the One LORD is the FATHER, SON, and the SPIRIT, the one SPIRIT is the SPIRIT (of) I-AM/YEHOVAH/the-LORD, the SPIRIT (of) WISDOM, the SPIRIT (of) UNDERSTANDING/DISCERNMENT, the SPIRIT (of) ADVICE/COUNSEL, the SPIRIT (of) POWER/MIGHT/STRENGTH, the SPIRIT (of) KNOWLEDGE, and the SPIRIT (of the) FEAR/REVERENCE (of) the-LORD/YEHOVAH.

Now, back to the pronouns of the SPIRIT. Ruach (H7307) is the Hebrew word for spirit and wind, which is feminine, and is referred to as feminine. This means the Hebrew in the Old-Testament/Word refers to the LORD the SPIRIT as feminine. In the New-Testament/Word the LORD the SPRIT is usually referred to in the neuter or masculine. The question is how The LORD the SPIRIT can be both referred to in the masculine/neuter and the feminine? Remember the LORD is spirit (Jhn 4:24). The LORD the FATHER, SON, and SPIRIT is neither male or female (except the SON’s human male body); HE made both male and female in HIS image (Gen 1:26). Man and woman were made in the image of the LORD for perfection and for us to comprehend the LORD. In the Old-Testament/Word, the SPIRIT did not usually indwell the family of the LORD (the Church). This means the LORD the SPIRIT is being explained in reference to the LORD HIMSELF without the inclusion of the Church. In this case, the feminine attributes of the SPIRIT are being compared to the masculine attributes of the LORD the FATHER and the LORD the SON. In the New-Testament/Word, after YESHUA arose from the dead, he sent the SPIRIT on the Feast-of-Weeks/Pentecost to indwell and guide those who become a part of the Family of the LORD through the death and resurrection of YESHUA ha’MASHIACH (Acts 1:8; 2:1, 2, 3, 4). (Feast of Weeks is the same holiday the Israelites received the Law from the LORD on Mount Sinay/Sinai from the hands of Mosheh/Moses in order to guide the priest of mankind [Ex 19:5, 6; Ex 20:1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10,11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17] [ref].) The SPIRIT indwells those who are in the Family of the LORD (1 Cor 6:19; 1 Jhn 3:24; Rom 8:9). So, in the New-Testament/Word the SPIRIT is being explained in reference to the LORD and the Family of the LORD (the Church). In this case, the LORD is represented as masculine (SPIRIT included) and the Family of the LORD is represented as feminine. The Family of the LORD is seen as a Bride (with the indwelling SPIRIT) to be wed to the LORD the SON (the Groom) (Rev 19:7; 21:2; Isa 61:10; 62:5). We also see the husband as YESHUA in the verses of the book of Ephesians (Eph 5:23). What about the neuter? There is only one GOD/LORD and HE does not change. GOD can not make another one of HIMSELF. So, the LORD/GOD also fits the attribute of being neuter. And yet, HE is not an “it,” but HE is a personal individual.

The one LORD GOD is the LORD the FATHER, the LORD the SON, and the LORD the Seven Fold SPIRIT.
