Gifts of the SPIRIT

(This article will use the World English Bible [WEB] translation unless the translation needs expanded. Links are in NASB for comparison.)

Joel 2:28, 29, 30, 31, 32 states: 28 “It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. 29 And also on the servants and on the handmaids in those days, I will pour out my Spirit. 30 I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood, fire, and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. 32 It will happen that whoever will call on the LORD’s name shall be saved; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, as the LORD has said, and among the remnant, those whom the LORD calls.”

Acts 2:17, 18, 19, 20, 21 repeats Joel: 17 “It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. 18 Yes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days, I will pour out my Spirit, and they will prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in the sky above, and signs on the earth beneath: blood, and fire, and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes. 21 It will be that whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Notice: these are the last days in which the SPIRIT is poured out on all HIS people.

John 14:12, 13, 14, 15, 16 states: “Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father. 13 Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it. 15 If you love me, keep my commandments. 16 I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever:”

Notice: anyone who believes in YESHUA and is filled with the SPIRIT can by the SPIRIT do works that YESHUA did and even greater works.

Matthew 11:9, 10, 11, 12, 13 states: “But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet. 10 For this is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’ 11 Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, the (one) about to come.”

Notice: all true Believers are greater than John the Baptizer who was greater than anyone in the Old Testament (This includes Moses, Elijah, Elisha, Enoch, Daniel, Isaiah, Samson, and so on.) Also notice that YESHUA said Elijah is about to come even though HE is saying John the Baptist was Elijah who has already died at this point in time.

What was different about John the Baptizer?

Luke 1:14, 15, 16, 17 states: 13 “But the angel said to him, “Don’t be afraid, Zacharias, because your request has been heard. Your wife, Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. 14 You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. 15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. 16 He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to prepare a people prepared for the Lord.” And, John 1:19, 20, 21 states: 19 “This is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 He declared, and didn’t deny, but he declared, “I am not the Christ.” 21 They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.”

So, YESHUA said John was a prophet and Elijah while John himself being filled with the SPIRIT said he was not a prophet or Elijah. How can both be true. The name Elijah in Hebrew is Eliyahu (H452) and is usually translated “my God is Jehovah” or “Yah(u) is God”. “El” means “GOD” (H410); the “i” mean “my” [ref]; “Yah” is a name of the LORD (H3050); and “u” means “of him”. So, the SPIRIT of Elijah means “the SPIRIT of my GOD YEHOVAH”. So, when YESHUA says Elijah comes, HE is talking about the SPIRIT of Elijah which is the HOLY SPIRIT, for John says he is not Elijah which is true. But, John has the SPIRIT within him since birth. And, though John is not a prophet in his flesh, by the SPIRIT that is working in him, he is a prophet.

Now, if any Believer is greater than anybody in the Old Testament who did great miracles; and, the SPIRIT is poured out in the “End Times” when Yisra’el/Israel has been brought back to the land of Yisra’el/Israel, which is now; and, any Believer can do greater works than YESHUA; I think that qualifies that the Gifts of the SPIRIT are still for Believers of today who are living in “End Time” before they see the “Perfect”, WHO is YESHUA, face to face (1 Cor 13:8, 9, 10, 11, 12).

What are the reasons for the Gifts of the SPIRIT?

Eph 4:10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 states: 10 “He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the Heavens, that he might fill all things. 11 He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers; 12 for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ14 that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error15 but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ16 from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love.” And, John 16:13, 14, 15 states:  13 “However, when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine and will declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes of mine and will declare it to you.” And John 17:21 states: 21 “that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me.” And 1 Cor 12:7 states: “But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all.”

So, the SPIRIT fulfills the purpose of the LORD: for equipping the Believer for service, for building up the Church, for making the Church one with the LORD and itself, attaining unity/oneness, knowledge of the LORD, perfection in YESHUA, speaking the truth in love, all in love.

And, another topic that will be covered under marriage is the Gifts of the SPIRIT being a marriage gift to the Bride/the-Church when each Believer says “I do” to the LORD’s marriage proposal.

So, what are the Gifts of the SPIRIT?

(All these are done willingly and voluntarily.)
(Some of these are gifts of positions that require the Fruit and Gifts of the SPIRIT.)
